MANILA, Philippines — Justin Arana continued his sensational start to the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup, delivering a career-best performance to lead the Converge FiberXers to a dominant 149-124 victory over the Macau Giant Pandas on Friday at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
The high-scoring affair saw Arana post a career-high 39 points along with 12 rebounds, spearheading another explosive offensive display by Converge as the FiberXers improved to 3-0 and caught the idle NLEX Road Warriors atop the Group A standings.
The victory also marked the highest-scoring game in franchise history for Converge, surpassing previous offensive records while extending their winning streak to three consecutive games.
Arana Continues Remarkable Rise
Coming off an outstanding 31-point, 10-rebound performance against Terrafirma just days earlier, Arana elevated his game even further against Macau.
The versatile big man scored consistently from all areas of the floor, finishing with eight points in the opening quarter before adding 14 in the second period and another 11 in the third. His efficient finishing around the basket and improved mid-range touch kept Macau’s defense scrambling throughout the night.
After the game, Arana credited his performance to simply taking what the defense gave him.
“Kina-counter ko lang kung ano depensa nila sa akin. Luckily, pumapasok ‘yung tira so thankful lang,” Arana said.
His latest outing further strengthens his case as one of the early breakout stars of the conference, providing Converge with a reliable inside presence while continuing to expand his offensive arsenal.
Converge Fires on All Cylinders
While Arana stole the spotlight, Converge showcased remarkable offensive balance with seven other players reaching double figures.
Mikey Williams orchestrated the attack with 16 points, while Alec Stockton contributed 15 markers. Rookie sensation Justine Baltazar and veteran Calvin Abueva each added 13 points, with import Jalen Hudson also finishing with 12.
MJ Garcia chipped in 11, and Juan Gomez de Liano rounded out the double-digit scorers with 10 points.
The FiberXers displayed crisp ball movement, relentless transition offense, and efficient shooting throughout the contest, overwhelming Macau with waves of scoring options.
Their 149-point explosion reflected the team’s commitment to playing at a fast pace while capitalizing on every transition opportunity.
Fast Break Sparks Offensive Explosion
Head coach Delta Pineda credited his team’s transition offense for creating separation, especially after Macau threatened to turn the game around midway through the contest.
Converge stormed to an early 34-21 first-quarter lead and eventually built a 19-point advantage before the Giant Pandas clawed their way back.
Pineda admitted the team briefly lost its rhythm in the second quarter but responded well after halftime adjustments.
“Noong first quarter po ‘yung transition namin, kung titingnan n’yo, ‘yun po strength namin. Nawala ng second, then good thing after noong huddle nagising po mga bata. Nu’ng second half po ‘yung transition namin nandoon na, tumakbo na ho ulit ‘yung mga bata,” Pineda explained.

The adjustments proved decisive as Converge regained control in the third period before blowing the game wide open in the final quarter.
Macau Shows Fight Before Converge Pulls Away
Despite trailing by double digits for much of the first half, Macau refused to fold.
Powered by Ramon Cao’s incredible shooting performance and De’Vondre Perry’s relentless scoring, the Giant Pandas erased the deficit and briefly seized an 83-82 advantage in the third quarter.
Moments later, the game was tied at 86-all, raising hopes for another thrilling finish.
However, Converge quickly responded.
Arana and Williams combined to ignite a decisive 23-10 scoring run that restored the FiberXers’ cushion before they entered the fourth quarter with a comfortable 109-96 lead.
The final period turned into a showcase of Converge’s offensive depth as the FiberXers poured in 40 points, completely overwhelming Macau’s defense to seal the convincing victory.
Cao Sets New PBA Record Despite Loss
Although Macau suffered its third straight defeat, Ramon Cao delivered one of the tournament’s most memorable individual performances.
The prolific scorer erupted for a career-high 41 points, highlighted by five four-point shots, setting a new PBA record for the most successful four-pointers in a single game.
De’Vondre Perry provided strong support with 35 points, while Kobey Lam added 26.
Unfortunately for Macau, the trio received little help from the rest of the roster.
Costly Ejection Hurts Giant Pandas
Macau’s comeback bid became even more difficult after starting point guard Damien Chongqui was ejected with 5:26 remaining in the second quarter.
The incident occurred shortly after Cao drilled his second four-pointer to trim the deficit to 51-45.
Following the basket, Chongqui angrily threw the basketball toward referee Albert Nubla. Officials ruled the act excessive, resulting in his immediate ejection.
Chongqui exited with just six points and three assists, a disappointing follow-up after posting 22 points and eight assists in Macau’s previous loss to San Miguel Beer.
Without their primary playmaker, the Giant Pandas struggled to sustain their offensive rhythm late in the game as Converge’s pressure intensified.
FiberXers Send Early Warning to Rest of League
Three games into the Governors’ Cup, Converge has quickly established itself as one of the tournament favorites.
The FiberXers have combined elite transition offense, balanced scoring, and improved interior play behind the emergence of Justin Arana.
With Arana playing the best basketball of his PBA career and multiple teammates capable of contributing on any given night, Converge appears well-positioned to challenge for the conference crown.
The emphatic victory also sends a statement to the rest of Group A, as the FiberXers now share first place with NLEX while carrying tremendous momentum into the next phase of the elimination round.
