LAPU-LAPU CITY, Cebu — The Biñan Tatak Gel showcased its championship poise once again, escaping the Cebu Greats with a hard-earned 73-69 victory in a thrilling Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) showdown at the Hoops Dome in Lapu-Lapu City on Friday.

In a game that featured multiple momentum swings and a roaring hometown crowd, Biñan leaned on the stellar performance of Kenny Rocacurva, who delivered in front of his fellow Cebuanos to help the Tatak Gel improve to 14 wins on the season while extending their remarkable winning streak to 11 consecutive games.

The victory did not come easily, as Cebu pushed one of the league’s hottest teams to the limit. But when the game reached its decisive moments, Biñan once again displayed the composure that has defined its impressive run this season.

Rocacurva Enjoys Memorable Homecoming

Returning to his home province, Camotes Island native Kenny Rocacurva made sure his homecoming would be one to remember.

The versatile forward finished with 19 points and seven rebounds, providing Biñan with a consistent offensive presence while also making timely defensive plays throughout the contest. Rocacurva attacked the basket with confidence, converted difficult finishes inside, and knocked down key baskets whenever Cebu threatened to seize control.

His energy was evident from the opening quarter, helping the Tatak Gel establish an early rhythm despite playing in front of a hostile crowd supporting the hometown Greats.

With the game hanging in the balance during the fourth quarter, Rocacurva once again answered the call, scoring crucial points that helped Biñan maintain its slim advantage and fend off Cebu’s late comeback.

For his outstanding performance, Rocacurva earned Player of the Game honors, an award presented by SportsPlus PH, the official sportsbook of the MPBL.

Cebu Refuses to Back Down

Although Biñan entered the contest carrying one of the league’s longest active winning streaks, the Cebu Greats showed they had no intention of allowing the visitors an easy victory.

Playing before an energetic crowd at the Hoops Dome, Cebu matched Biñan’s intensity on nearly every possession. The Greats used their aggressive defense to disrupt the Tatak Gel’s offensive flow while capitalizing on transition opportunities to keep the game within striking distance.

Neither team managed to create a comfortable lead, resulting in a tightly contested battle from the opening tip until the final buzzer.

Every scoring run by Biñan was quickly answered by Cebu, keeping the fans engaged throughout the night. The Greats repeatedly closed the gap whenever the Tatak Gel appeared ready to pull away, setting the stage for a dramatic finish.

Despite falling short, Cebu demonstrated resilience and competitiveness against one of the MPBL’s elite teams.

Biñan Executes in Winning Time

The defining moment of the contest came in the closing minutes when Biñan relied on disciplined execution to preserve its advantage.

Holding onto a narrow lead, the Tatak Gel tightened their defense, forced difficult shots, and secured key rebounds to deny Cebu second-chance opportunities. Offensively, Biñan remained patient, valuing every possession while avoiding costly turnovers that could have shifted momentum.

Rocacurva led the way, but the team’s collective effort proved equally important. Biñan’s supporting cast contributed timely baskets, defensive stops, and hustle plays that ultimately made the difference in the 73-69 victory.

Their ability to remain calm under pressure has become one of the team’s greatest strengths during its impressive winning streak.

Eleven Straight Wins Highlight Biñan’s Consistency

The latest triumph extended Biñan’s winning streak to 11 games, a remarkable run that continues to establish the Tatak Gel as one of the strongest championship contenders in the MPBL.

More importantly, the victory improved the club’s record to 14 wins, reinforcing its position near the top of the league standings as the regular season enters a crucial stage.

Throughout the streak, Biñan has consistently found different players capable of stepping into the spotlight. Against Cebu, Rocacurva took center stage, but the team’s success has largely been built on balanced contributions, disciplined defense, and outstanding chemistry.

The Tatak Gel have repeatedly demonstrated that they can win in different ways—whether through high-scoring performances, defensive battles, or close finishes such as Friday night’s thriller.

Road Wins Continue to Build Confidence

Winning away from home is never an easy task in the MPBL, where passionate local supporters often provide teams with a significant advantage.

That made Biñan’s victory at the Hoops Dome even more impressive.

The Tatak Gel remained composed despite the loud atmosphere and Cebu’s repeated comeback attempts. Instead of allowing the crowd to influence the game, Biñan focused on executing its game plan and trusting the system that has carried the team through its winning streak.

The ability to consistently perform in hostile environments could become a valuable asset once the playoffs begin, where every possession becomes increasingly important.

A Team Peaking at the Right Time

As the regular season progresses, Biñan continues to look like one of the most complete teams in the MPBL.

The combination of veteran leadership, defensive discipline, and emerging stars has created a balanced roster capable of competing with anyone in the league. Rocacurva’s standout performance in Cebu was another reminder that the Tatak Gel possess multiple offensive weapons capable of delivering when needed most.

For Rocacurva, the victory carried extra significance. Performing in front of family, friends, and hometown supporters while leading Biñan to another crucial win made his return to Cebu a memorable one.

Meanwhile, the Cebu Greats can take positives from their spirited effort despite the defeat. Their ability to push one of the league’s hottest teams until the final minutes showed that they remain a dangerous opponent capable of challenging any contender.

With another thrilling road victory secured, Biñan leaves Mactan with its confidence soaring. The 73-69 triumph over the Cebu Greats not only preserved the Tatak Gel’s 11-game winning streak but also sent another strong message to the rest of the MPBL: Biñan is playing some of its best basketball at exactly the right time, and its championship aspirations continue to gain momentum with every win.
